Overview
For many decades, Julius Röntgen was a leading figure in Dutch musical life, coming from a distinguished musical family and counting Brahms, Grieg, Grainger, and Nielsen among his close friends. In his later years, he composed an important series of works, including a sequence of String Trios written for him to play with his talented sons.
This album presents the World Première Recordings of his last four string trios, composed between 1925 and 1930. These works are characterized by considerable warmth, verve, and inventiveness, standing as "late fruits" of Röntgen's prolific chamber output. Performed by the Offenburg String Trio, these recordings capture the resourceful and nostalgic style of a composer firmly rooted in the German musical tradition.
